Damascus voters ruin Damascus
March 13th, 2008
What a crappy article. “Don’t mess with damascas”… that’s exactly what these measures will do! The article is biased and assumes that these measures somehow “protect” Damascus. Far from it!
DAMASCUS — Forget Texas — don’t mess with Damascus.
These toothless measures remind of the crap that John Day County passed… those that “banned the UN from entering John Day”. Come on man.

This law might just slow down the development of the Damascus area. If the city cannot pay for services to new developments maybe they won’t happen.

You are absolutely correct! Since the city does not have the monetary resource to compensate in indeed there were any actual devaluation (chances are very small) why should they take the risk of doing anything.
Even though the chief petitioner says there is remedy outside of monetary compensation, there is clearly none spelled out in the wording of the measure. The only remedy is not taking action.
It will be interesting to see the reaction of those who voted yes and then approach the city about developing their properties. It will probably be like the folks who received their first Mult. Co. “I” tax bill. “What’s this?” It’s what you voted for, “not me”.
